Olympique Lyonnais have maintained their impressive run of form by securing a fifth consecutive victory across all competitions with a 2-1 road win against FC Metz on Friday night at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.

Less than 15 minutes into the match, Metz took the lead thanks to a goal from Georges Mikautadze. With eight shots in the first half, Les Grenats started strongly, and almost headed into halftime with the advantage, but the visitors did well to level the match.

Alexandre Lacazette equalized in first-half stoppage time, giving Lyon positive momentum heading into the dressing room. In the early stages of the second half, Saïd Benrahma, who had come on as a substitute, scored his first goal for the club to give Les Gones a 2-1 lead.

Metz registered seven total shots in the second half but couldn't find an equalizer. The victory moves Pierre Sage and his team six points above the relegation playoff placed, positioning them comfortably in the middle of the table as OL have pulled away from the bottom three.

Although Lyon's victory brings positive news, the situation isn't as favorable for Metz, as they currently occupy a direct relegation position, just a point ahead of bottom side Clermont, trailing FC Nantes by five points for the relegation playoff spot.

OL will now redirect their attention to the Coupe de France as they prepare to host RC Strasbourg at Groupama Stadium in a quarterfinal clash on Tuesday As for Metz, their upcoming fixture will entail a journey to the Stade de la Beaujoire to face FC Nantes, a match of significant importance in the relegation battle.
