La Paillade got a helping hand from Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who accidentally scored an own goal in the tenth minute. The lead was short-lived, though, as Jérémie Boga quickly equalized two minutes later.

Toward the end of the first half, Michel Der Zakarian and his team got a chance to go ahead when they received a penalty after a VAR review. Téji Savanier stepped into the box and converted to give Montpellier a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Nice's attack then turned it up another level in search of an equalizer with 12 total shots in the second half. Montpellier only had three total shots, but their defense withstood the onslaught of attack from Nice to hold onto the 2-1 result.

Montpellier have now earned points in three out of their last four games, with two wins and one draw, and they're hitting their stride at just the right moment to turn their situation around. Next weekend, Montpellier will face a challenging task when hosting Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade de la Mosson.

As for Nice, Francesco Farioli and his team are struggling as they’ve seen their five-game winless streak be extended. Les Aiglons' last win was on February 7 in the Coupe de France Round of 16 against Montpellier, and their previous Ligue 1 win was on January 27 against FC Metz.

Nice will attempt again to end their difficult stretch when they travel to the Parc des Princes for a Coupe de France quarterfinal showdown against PSG.
