Paris Saint-Germain defeated Montpellier HSC 6-2 on Sunday night at Stade de la Mosson, behind Kylian Mbappé's hat-trick performance.

PSG opened the scoring with a goal from Vitinha in the 14th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Mbappé added the Parisians' second goal, giving Luis Enrique and his team a quick 2-0 lead.

Even though Montpellier trailed 2-0, they displayed resilience, scoring two goals before the break and leveling the score. The first goal came from Arnaud Nordin in the 30th minute, and Téji Savanier scored on a penalty kick in first-half stoppage time.

After a thrilling first half with four goals scored, both teams went into the dressing room level at 2-2. PSG came out in the second half scoring four unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead.

The first goal came from Mbappé in the 50th minute, PSG a 3-2 lead. Three minutes later, Kang-in Lee added PSG's fourth goal of the contest to again give them a two-goal advantage.

Mbappé netted PSG's fifth goal of the match to complete his hat-trick in the 63rd minute. In the final moments of the second half, Nuno Mendes added the sixth goal to cap off the goal-scoring fest for PSG.

Montpellier recorded ten shots in the first half, but their attack went quiet in the second half, as they registered two shots in the final 45 minutes. The loss for Michel Der Zakarian and his team isn't ideal as they remain one point above the relegation playoff spot.

La Paillade will need to bounce back when they face a struggling Le Havre squad on March 31 after the FIFA break. As for PSG, they'll meet Olympique de Marseille in the latest installment of Le Classique on March 31.
