AS Monaco secured a 2-0 victory over Montpellier Hérault SC on Sunday night at Stade de la Mosson, cementing a second-place finish for the 2023-24 season.
Monaco's attack had a dominant first 45 minutes against Montpellier as Adi Hütter and his team recorded 13 shots, five of which were on target. The only thing missing for the second-place side was finding the back of the net, with the first half ending 0-0 as the two squads headed into the dressing room.
Following a barrage of shots in the first 45 minutes, Monaco's relentless offensive display paved the way for them to secure the 1-0 lead. Monaco finally broke the deadlock courtesy of a goal from Kassoum Ouattara in the 52nd minute.
The scoring didn't stop there for Les Rouge et Blanc as Youssouf Fofana gave the visitors a 2-0 lead midway through the second half. Montpellier had a tough job ahead, trailing by two goals even with the support of their home crowd.
Although Monaco had more total shots in the first half, Montpellier had the most in the second half, with ten, while Les Monégasques had six. Still, La Paillade couldn't find the back of the net to mount a comeback against Monaco, with the result ending 2-0.

Monaco will look to end their campaign on a positive note when they host FC Nantes at the Stade Louis II on the final matchday of the season.
Afterward, the club can begin to look toward the 2024-25 season, where they'll be one of Ligue 1's representatives in the UEFA Champions League.
As for Montpellier, they will travel to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis for a clash with RC Lens, who have a lot riding on the match as they need to win and have certain results go their way to reach a European competition next season.
