Lille are not Ligue 1 Uber Eats title contenders insists coach Christophe Galtier despite his team heading into their Round 15 trip to Dijon on Wednesday top of the French top-flight table (kick-off 6pm GMT).

Lille's unbeaten run in the UEFA Europa League was ended by Celtic on Thursday — a result that saw them knocked out of first place in the group though with their knockout stage place already assured — but Galtier saw his men plough on impressively in domestic competition with a 2-1 defeat of Bordeaux on Sunday.

The win — the third in a four-game unbeaten league run — took Lille top of the table late on Sunday afternoon, and they remain there, joined on 29 points by Olympique Lyonnais, who defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the late Round 14 kick-off.

PSG's loss means they slip to third, a point behind the top two, but despite steering his team to a runners-up finish in an exceptional 2018/19 campaign, Galtier is not convinced his squad can go one better this time.

"I don't think we can battle with Paris for the title. We have to battle to get points and stay at the top of the table," he said, insisting that next weekend's encounter with Thomas Tuchel's side at the Stade Pierre Mauroy is not yet on his mind.

"In my eyes, the Dijon match is a lot more important. Paris will be perhaps the match for the players, but Dijon is a key match for what comes next."

Lille's rise to the top of the table has been fuelled by an exceptional campaign in which Galtier's side have lost just once and won eight of their 14 matches so far. They saw off Bordeaux thanks to a fine Jonathan Bamba strike and a ferocious header from Jose Fonte either side of a Toma Basic goal for the visitors.

Sanches, Araujo out

"I thought that the match would be difficult, because Bordeaux are a good team and my players are starting to get a bit tired and there's a duty to get a result at home if we want to be well-placed before the Christmas break," said Galtier, whose team have won eight of their last ten matches at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, none of which have ended in defeat.

"We lacked a little freshness. Bordeaux made us run around a lot in the first half, it was better in the second. We were hasty, we let ourselves get boxed in by Bordeaux's pressing. We kept playing it inside when we should have gone outside. We created breaches in the Bordeaux defence in the second half. We lacked precision and clear-headedness, but it's a win that I want to appreciate at its true value."

Lucas Araujo will miss the trip to Burgundy due to a thigh injury that also kept him out against Bordeaux while Renato Sanches will not play again this year.

"He's injured himself again," said Galtier, who has had to do without the Portugal international since the former Bayern Munich prodigy picked up a thigh injury while on duty with his country in November.

"It's not the same injury, it's a new one. I thought it wasn't that bad, but he'll actually be out for the next three Ligue 1 games so he'll have missed our series of ten matches since the last international break."

Suspended against Bordeaux, Domagoj Bradaric will be available again as Lille seek to beat a Dijon side that remain bottom of the table despite extending their unbeaten run to three matches with last weekend's draw at Nantes courtesy of new signing Moussa Konaté's first goal for the club;

"I'm very happy to have scored my first goal for Dijon. I want to thank all my teammates who did all they could to make me feel as welcome as possible," said the October arrival from Amiens, who had failed to find the net in his first six Ligue 1 Uber Eats outings for his new club.

"This goal is all the more importatnt as it allows us to take a point from our trip. We have to keep that same attitude to be able to pick up some more wins."
