Andy Delort started the season as Montpellier Hérault SC captain, but OGC Nice coach Christophe Galtier expects an ice-cold performance from his striker when his former employers visit the Allianz Riviera on Sunday.

Delort joined Nice at the start of August on the back of a three-year stay with Montpellier which brought with it 47 goals, 21 assists and fan favourite status with La Paillade before his move along the Mediterranean coast.

The France-born Algeria international has hit the ground running with Nice, too, with five goals and an assist. His most recent goal-involvement was last Sunday when he struck twice to rescue all three points in a 2-1 win at Angers SCO.

'Second means nothing'

The result left les Aiglons second in the table having picked up 10 points from the last possible 15. They still trail leaders Paris Saint-Germain by eight, though, and Galtier - who won Ligue 1 Uber Eats against with LOSC against the odds last term - expects his players to remain focused.

"Second in the table means nothing," he said. We must stay determined. This match shouldn't mean more for Andy than for any other player, than it did for Melvin Bard and Amine Gouiri against Lyon [a 3-2 win]. There will be no emotion in Andy. Footballers of this generation are used to changing clubs and what it entails."

Whilst Galtier may not want to add to Delort's goalscoring burden, the onus is inescapably on him to fire Nice past Montpellier. Fellow final-third operators Calvin Stengs and Justin Kluivert are out with thigh strains, while Kasper Dolberg only returned to training this week after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with illness and injury.

Nice run of form

Robson Bambu and Evann Guessand are also out with strained ankle ligaments, but Nice remain favourites against a side they beat 3-1 in April, when Delort lined up on the opposite side of this fixture.

Montpellier begin the day seven points back from Nice in 11th, but they have turned the corner recently after a shaky season start which has seen them spend the last five rounds in the bottom half of the table, beating FC Nantes 2-0 on Sunday to make it two wins from three.

Delort has scored five goals and four assists in 12 career meetings with Nice - five of those goal involvements coming with Montpellier, but Galtier's opposite number Olivier Dall'Oglio doesn't want his team to get fixated on one player.

'No anti-Andy plan'

"There will be no anti-Andy plan," he declared at his pre-match press conference. We'll face a Nice side who are a contender for the podium at the end of this season; one who are playing well as a team. Even if Andy's important for them we'll be happy to see him... after the match!"

Suspension and injury mean that Montpellier will line up without Téji Savanier and Matheus Thuler. Florent Mollet is likely to occupy the former's No.10 position, with Elye Wahi the favourite to take his place on the right flank. Thuler's fellow defender Pedro Mendes remains sidelined with a torn LCL.
