Olympique Lyonnais Peter Bosz' half-time tactical shift saw his side come back from a goal down to claim Olympico bragging rights at home to Marseille in their rescheduled Round 14 Ligue 1 Uber Eats clash on Tuesday night.

After Mattéo Guendouzi opened the scoring for Marseille after just ten minutes, Olympique Lyonnais were staring down the barrel of a bitter result in their rescheduled clash.

But coach Peter Bosz opted for a change of system in the second half and it bore fruit late on, with Xherdan Shaqiri and Moussa Dembélé doing the damage to clinch a precious win that took Les Gones up to seventh, just a point shy of the European places.

Pulling the strings

The switch from a 3-4-3 to a denser 4-4-2 formation proved telling, with right wing-back Malo Gusto playing as a winger and Shaqiri moving into a striker's role alongside Rayan Cherki.

"The first half was completely different from the second. There was the pressure with the goalkeeper going high between the two central defenders, and it was difficult for us to manage," said the Dutchman. "We changed that, by putting Malo [Gusto] on as a right winger, and in my opinion, we even got forward more than we did in the 4-3-3 formation. Everything changed when we put more men in the middle and had two players to press the Marseille central defenders."

Turning point?

Was this a turning point for the sleeping giants of the French game, who have impressed only by turns this so far this season?

"We can say that after the season, not after this match," said Bosz. "It was an important match of course, because it was against a direct competitor. But I think it's our third win in a row so maybe the turning point came before."
