A devastating new partnership is forming at the Parc des Princes. Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi have built up a chemistry in recent weeks that looks certain to blossom as the season enters its critical stage.

The duo were at their scintillating best in Saturday's 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne with Mbappé adding two goals to his tally of 14 for the season - both superbly assisted by Messi.

Mbappé was quick to praise the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner after the victory over Les Verts and pointed to the adjustment period the former Barcelona man has had to endure since arriving in Paris.

Greatness

"Messi is a great player. I'm happy for him; he's adjusting to a new life, a new city, a new club," said Mbappé to Paris-based newspaper Le Parisien.

"Even when you win the Ballon d'Or seven times, you have to adapt; that's how it is. He's getting better and better, he's happy, and I've always said it, if we have a great Messi, it's better. It's easy to play with him."

The 23-year-old Frenchman equaled Zlatan Ibrahimovic's tally of 156 goals for the capital club in Saturday's win and despite reaching that milestone, Mbappé discussed how he is still learning his trade as well as his delight at playing alongside Messi.

"He's a great player; I've always wanted to play with great players. Great players are made to play with great players. We have fun on the pitch, I have a lot of fun and I am also learning," said Mbappé.

Paris Saint-Germain will have to do without their top scorer in their next league game at third-placed Nice next weekend but the World Cup winner will be available for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in nine-days time, and PSG will be hoping their flourishing duo will see them over the line.
