After sealing PSG's 2-1 win over Strasbourg with a (very) late penalty as Ligue 1 Uber Eats resumed with Round 16 on Wednesday, Kylian Mbappé appreciated the electric atmosphere in the Parc des Princes and gave the perfect reply to Argentina's overly pointed World Cup celebrations.

"Not my problem."

That was the gist of it for Kylian Mbappé when speaking to reporters in the mixed zone at the Parc des Princes after his successful spot-kick deep into added time (90'+6) sealed a 2-1 win over Strasbourg for league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

>> MATCH REPORT: Kylian Mbappé, who else?

The Ligue 1 Uber Eats top scorer (13 goals) was asked about Argentina's World Cup celebrations, which featured overwhelming joy for Mbappé's club mate Lionel Messi, who had finally clinched the one trophy that had been missing from his rather well-stocked cabinet, but also a lot of pointed digs at the France superstar, who bagged a sensational hat-trick in the final, but the 24-year-old didn't bite

'I won't waste any energy on such futile things'

"I spoke with Messi after the game a little bit. I congratulated him because it was the quest of a lifetime for him - for me too - but I failed, and you always have to be a good sportsman," explained Mbappé before showcasing his skills at verbal aikido. "But celebrations are not my problem; I won't waste any energy on such futile things. The most important thing for me is to give my best for my club. We are waiting for Léo to come back so we can start winning games and scoring goals again."

It was no surprise that Mbappé was in a positive frame of mind after the match - on top of scoring the dramatic winner, the Boy from Bondy received an overwhelming reception from the PSG faithful, who showed their appreciation for his World Cup heroics throughout the match.

Warm reception at the Parc des Princes

"It's great, it's great. It was a difficult match," explained Mbappé, whose cool finish form the spot was needed for the win after PSG captain Marquinhos had opened the scoring (14') before levelling it up for Strasbourg (51', o.g.). "We managed to get the win so we are very, very happy. The atmosphere was incredible inside the Parc and the fans really supported us, they pushed us all the way. We really had that twelfth man tonight, and that really helped us to get the win. The fans singing? I didn't hear it very well because I'm quite far away on the pitch, but I heard my name. It really makes you feel good. I thank the fans. When you come back from a situation like what I went through at the World Cup, it's always heart-warming to know that you've come home and it really makes you happy."

Thick and fast

Mbappé's next chance to shine comes on Sunday when Paris Saint-Germain - who just announced the extension of star midfielder Marco Verratti's contract - take on nearest chasers RC Lens in the famed atmosphere of the Stade Bollaert in Round 17 on Sunday night (20:45 CET).
