In a tough season for Ligue 1 Uber Eats bosses, Lucien Favre has become the latest coach to be shown the door, OGC Nice opting to end his contract and install former player and reserves coach Didier Digard as interim boss.

Favre's return to OGC Nice for a second stint at the helm of the Côte d'Azure club in the summer was heralded as a chance for INEOS' big investment in players and directors to start paying dividends, but the season has been tough going so far and Sunday's Coupe de France elimination at the hands of third-division Le Puy proved the final straw.

The humiliating cup loss came as Les Aiglons sit 11th on the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table with a record of five wins, six draws and six defeats. In a season that will see four clubs relegated as the league slims down to an 18-team competition, the club's directors evidently felt that their eight-point buffer ahead of 17th-placed Brest was not acceptable.

Digard to the rescue?

The club announced on Monday that former Nice player Didier Digard will step up from his role as reserves coach to take the helm in a caretaker capacity, assisted by former teammate Julien Sablé, until a permanent replacement is found.

His first challenge comes in the form of Montpellier, who travel to the Allianz Riviera for their Round 18 clash on Wednesday night.
