Alban Lafont will come up against first club Toulouse FC as FC Nantes look to defend their Coupe de France title at the Stade de France on Saturday evening.

Lafont joined Toulouse as a 15-year-old back in 2014 and became Ligue 1 Uber Eats' youngest ever goalkeeper when le Téfécé handed him his debut one short season later.

He left for Fiorentina in 2018 with 106 appearances in all competitions under his belt, regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in world football.

Whilst it didn't work out for Lafont in Italy, he has thrived again since returning to France with Nantes, initially on loan, in 2019, and is now one game away from his second consecutive Coupe de France triumph.

Lafont: 'adds a bit of spice'

"It's my formative club, so it's a final that becomes a bit more personal and it adds a bit of spice to the confrontation," the now 24-year-old told the Coupe de France Twitter channel.

"It's a nice thing, I think, for [fellow former Toulouse player] Moussa Sissoko and I, and we can't wait to be there."

Lafont is set to start the game despite the fact that Rémy Descamps has kept goal for most of Nantes' run to the final, not least because his understudy has a thigh injury. He is taking nothing for granted.

"Toulouse are a team I watch quite a lot because I was trained there," he added. "We all know their quality. They have impressive attacking assets. It's up to us to give the best that we possibly can."
