A new trophy is on the horizon for Lionel Messi. In the 2-1 win over Auxerre, the Paris Saint-Germain maestro cooked up his 16th assist of the season and is now on course for his first Ligue 1 Uber Eats assists leader award. With two games remaining, the Argentinian world champion has a comfortable five-assist lead over second-placed Jonathan Clauss (OM).

30 assists in two seasons

In Auxerre, La Pulga teed up Kylian Mbappé for the 11th time this season, and the 18th time since the two players have been playing together in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. On this occasion, the Parisian hit his 30th assist in 56 games in the elite, which is as much as Téji Savanier, a seasoned assist provider in the league over several more season than the Argentine.

In addition to the title of assist leader, Lionel Messi can do better by breaking the record for the most assists in a season. The Argentinian will need to deliver at least three assists in the last two games to beat his compatriot and former PSG team-mate Angel Di Maria, who won the title in 2016 with 18 goals cooked up for his teammates.

Cabella, Barcola not stopping

Still in the upper reaches of the assists chart, Rémy Cabella has not given up on a place on the podium. The 33-year-old LOSC player, who is enjoying his best season as an assist provider, produced his tenth assist of the season against OM, one of his former clubs. He is now just one behind Jonathan Clauss and Neymar (PSG).

Bradley Barcola, the revelation of the second half of the season for OL, has also moved into the top ten. Against AS Monaco, the young Lyon player provided his seventh assist of the season, and his sixth for Alexandre Lacazette. He is now Lyon's assists leader, and ninth on the Ligue 1 Uber Eats assists chart, just ahead of club-mate Maxence Caqueret (tenth, also with 7 assists).
