In the wake of breakout star Folarin Balogun's departure Stade de Reims have announced the signature of a new striker - Amine Salama - to lead Will Still's attack in season 2023-24.

Folarin Balogun's successor? After making the arrival of experienced goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle official on Thursday, Stade de Reims have also been recruiting at the other end of the pitch.

Young striker Amine Salama arrives from Angers SCO. The 22-year-old, who was still playing in Regional 1 (D6) at the end of 2021, has just completed his first season in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, during which he scored three goals in 25 games.

"What stands out most about Amine is his combination of power and technical finesse," commented Reims sporting director Pol-Edouard Caillot. "He has a mobility and fluidity of movement that are disconcerting for a player who is over 1m90 tall."

The challenge

There is no doubt that Salama has big shoes to fill, Arsenal loanee Balogun having stunned the footballing world - and earned a call-up to the USA's national team in the process - with a breakout season at the Champagne club in 2022-23.
