Ludovic Blas went from idolising Thiago Silva to being marked by the former Paris Saint-Germain captain. Ahead of the Derby Breton, Ligue1.com sat down with the Stade Rennais FC midfielder…

Blas joined Rennes from FC Nantes this summer, crossing the derby divide, and has since scored a goal each in Ligue 1 Uber Eats and the UEFA Europa League across his six games in all competitions.

Ahead of Sunday's meeting with Nantes at Roazhon Park, Blas reflected on his career to date.

Ludovic Blas on…

… his fondest memory

"My first Ligue 1 goal, which I was able to score in my first match at the Stade de Roudourou. I'll never forget this moment with Guingamp, the club that formed me. Jimmy Briand put it on a plate for me. What a player Jimmy was! It's always a pleasure to think back to this moment. I was only 17, I came on and I scored... incredible."

… and his worst

"Relegation to Ligue 2 with Guingamp. The moment we knew we were going down is my worst memory, for sure. I set early records at Guingamp, I started my career there, so I wanted the club to be in Ligue 1 when I left, but that wasn't the case, unfortunately. This is the biggest blot on my CV so far."

… his best goal

"At the Parc des Princes, with Guingamp. It's an unforgettable goal for me because it was a childhood dream. I went to see PSG matches with my family when I was little, so I found myself on this pitch... on a corner from Clément Grenier, Edinson Cavani cleared it and the ball came to the edge of the box. I tried a volley and it went under the bar! To score a goal like that and be voted Man of the Match is exceptional, in front of my family too. It's probably my best goal and I did it in the best possible place."

… his favourite teammate

"I've played with a lot of good friends and had a lot of fun since the start of my career. I played with Marcus Thuram at Guingamp. He's someone I grew up with in Paris so playing with him in Ligue 1 was incredible. There's also Marcus Coco, with whom I did almost all of my training. Of my 300 professional games, I must have played 200 with him. In Nantes, I also had a good partnership with Randal Kolo Muani. We got along very well on the pitch and we did a lot of damage to defences."

… his toughest opponent

"The defender who impressed me the most was Thiago Silva. He's incredible, so strong... he's a world-class player. When I played against him, he managed to take me exactly where he wanted. I tried to be unpredictable in our duels but he was really impressive."

… the best atmosphere

"Lens is something else. The Orange Vélodrome too! But my heart makes me say Paris. It may not be the best atmosphere but I love the Parc des Princes. That's the good thing about Ligue 1, there are plenty of stadiums with a great atmosphere."

… his favourite coach

"I'd say Jocelyn Gourvennec. He trusted me and gave me my chance in Ligue 1. We're still in touch. Same with Christian Gourcuff. He was the one who brought me to Nantes and he always trusted me. He kept his faith in me even when I wasn't very good, during my first weeks at the club. Antoine Kombouaré also has a special place. He pushed me to raise my level and gave me great responsibilities, which made me the player I am today. All these coaches played an important role in my career."
