Olympique Lyonnais will host Marseille in an all-Olympic clash which has key permutations for the position of both sides in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats table. Pierre Sage’s Lyon side will try to avoid slipping into the relegation zone this weekend, with Les Gones on 16 points after the first 19 matches played this season.

Despite a recent resurgence under new manager Sage with three wins on the bounce over the winter period, Les Gones have lost their first two matches in 2024 against Le Havre (3-1) and Rennes (3-2).

Meanwhile, Marseille will be looking to break into the top five and a potential push for European football if results go their way elsewhere this weekend. The Phocaean side are chasing behind Lille who currently occupy the final European spot. Gennaro Gattuso’s men come off the back of a frustrating 2-2 draw with AS Monaco, spending the majority of the match with a numerical advantage over the Monégasques.

Despite this, OM are currently unbeaten in their last eight matches, having only been defeated in Ligue 1 by Lens before the November international break. Gift Orban could make his first start for Lyon, whilst new recruit Nemanja Matic is a doubt for the match with a muscle injury.

Meanwhile, Marseille will soon be bolstered by the return of Senegal’s Pape Gueye, Ismaila Sarr, Iliman Ndiaye and Morocco’s Amine Harit and Azzedine Ounahi from AFCON duty. Yet the Lyon clash will likely come too early for their involvement.
