In eighth place after a win over Marseille on Sunday, Stade Rennais have picked up an incredible 20 points in the calendar year 2024

After snapping Olympique de Marseille's strong start to life under Jean-Louis Gasset with a 2-0 win on Sunday, no team in Ligue 1 has picked up more points since the start of the calendar year, a result which has the Breton side knocking on the door of Europe, revived under Julien Stéphan.

Leading the way have been Benjamin Borurigeaud and Martin Terrier -- both were on the scoresheet on Sunday, Terrier finding the opening goal and Bourigeaud sealing the result from the penalty spot. Terrier, just returning from a long-term injury that saw him miss much of the beginning of the season, has seven goals and two assists since the start of 2024, while Bourigeaud has been in even more imperious form. The veteran winger, who recently made his 300th appearance since joining from RC Lens, has nine goals and five assists, helping his side win six of their nine matches and reach the semifinals of the Coupe de France.

While they still face an uphill battle, with their two in-form attackers and no more European football, Stade Rennais will want to continue to rise up the table, and buck the odds to finish again in the European places.
