Up-and-coming defender Warmed Omari scored the only goal of the game as Rennes made it through to the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France with a hard-fought derby win over fellow Ligue 1 Uber Eats side Lorient.

Omari made his top-flight debut for Rennes earlier this season, and netted in the first half of his maiden Coupe de France appearance to secure Bruno Genesio's men a place in the next round at the expense of their Breton neighbours.

"It's his first senior goal. It's important, especially for a defender. It's a reward for his consistency, I was happy for him," said Genesio, whose free-flowing side struggled for fluency against stubborn opponents at Roazhon Park. "When you play at home against a team that's defending deep, it's sometimes important to be less pretty but solid. We managed to score, keep our lead and get through, that's the main thing."

Reigning French champions Lille eased through against second division Auxerre. Angel Gomes, Jonathan David and Zeki Celik all scored in the first half to help secure a 3-1 win, while Clermont's Jordan Tell netted two penalties in their 4-0 victory against amateur side Chemin-Bas d'Avignon Nîmes. Nantes were pushed to a penalty shoot-out by second-tier Sochaux before coming through, but Troyes were a top-flight casualty as they lost on penalties to another Ligue 2 side, Nancy.
