Despite a star turn off the bench - with several big chances including two goals ruled out for off-side - Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé couldn't turn the tide in the 1-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 - but he's not giving up!

In doubt for the match following a thigh injury in early February, Kylian Mbappé stunned everyone as he regained fitness in record time and then came off the bench (57') to great effect at home to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last 16 UEFA Champions League  tie on Tuesday.

Despite some patchy recent form - fuelled by a raft of injuries to the attacking trio of Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Neymar, as well as key midfielders Marco Verratti and Renato Sanches - Paris Saint-Germain ended the match on top, even though they couldn't conjure a response to PSG youth academy product Kingsley Coman's lone strike (53').

'Look at the positives'

"As we said, we have to look at the positives. It's a two-legged tie. We can't change what happened in the first leg, so we will go there to qualify," said the Boy from Bondy. "We know that there is a possibility. There is still a good possibility to qualify. So we will go there with a lot of energy and determination."

Though it will doubtless be a tough task in Bavaria on 8 March, Mbappé was bullish on PSG's chances of turning the tie around

"It's not a comeback. There's no longer the away-goal rule," he declared. "We have to score a goal and then we'll be level, so we have to go there and win. Play our game, play attacking football, which we know how to do and try to go there and win."

'I gave everything'

As for his swift return form injury, Mbappé had no complaints on the night.

"My injury? I was a bit concerned, but I gave everything I had and I have nothing left," said the relieved France World Cup hero. "Now we have to continue and recover well. Like I said, we just need to get everyone back healthy and all come back at 100 percent, and I'm sure it can go well."

Although PSG have some tough fixtures before then - at home to resurgent LOSC in Round 24 this weekend and away to arch-rivals Marseille, who dumped them out of the Coupe de France last week, in Round 25 - they can draw plenty of comfort form the fact that Mbappé is back and bringing the danger once again.
