Olympique Lyonnais scored three unanswered goals for a 3-1 come-from-behind road win over FC Nantes on Sunday night at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

Nantes recorded six total shots in the first 45 minutes as Les Canaris found the back of the net thanks to a goal from Matthis Abline in the 16th minute. Lyon's attack also had an impressive first half, registering six total shots, but couldn't find the equalizing goal heading into halftime.

Both teams continued their impressive attack in the second half. OL recorded 13 total shots in their attempts to level the scoring, which came in the 75th minute courtesy of a goal from Alexandre Lacazette. Nantes countered with eight total shots as they aimed to score their second goal of the match.

Despite Nantes' best efforts to take the lead, it was Pierre Sage and his team who found their second goal. Malick Fofana came off the bench in the second half to score in the 77th minute and allow Lyon to take a 2-1 lead.

OL added an insurance goal to clinch the victory in the second half stoppage time for the 3-1 lead thanks to a goal from Gift Orban.

Lyon's win allowed the squad to move to within two points of seventh-place Stade de Reims. After a challenging start to their 2023-24 season, OL have a chance to finish this campaign in the top half of the Ligue 1 table.

Although Antoine Kombouaré and his team remain above FC Lorient, who currently occupy the relegation playoff spot, it's a missed opportunity to create distance after having a 1-0 lead in the match.

Nantes will play a massive game next weekend against Le Havre, who are also in the relegation battle. A win for either team would give them the edge to remain in Ligue 1 for next season.
