Angel Di Maria and Marco Verratti are among the big names set to play for Paris Saint-Germain against RC Strasbourg Alsace on Saturday as coach Thomas Tuchel seeks to avoid a slip-up before facing Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.

Ligue 1 Conforama leaders PSG may be 30 points clear of Strasbourg ahead of their trip to the Stade de la Meinau, but Di Maria, Verratti and Thomas Meunier all likely to feature as the champions seek to avoid a negative result against a side they needed a 92nd-minute winner from Neymar Jr. to get past in September.

Favourites

The champions have been hurtling towards a ninth Ligue 1 Conforama title, with last Saturday's 4-0 win over Dijon FCO maintaining their 13-point lead on second-place Olympique de Marseille with 11 games left in the season, and they built on that form with a 5-1 destruction of Olympique Lyonnais in the Coupe de France semi-finals on Wednesday night.

With the capital club facing Lyon then Dortmund in cup competitions in successive Wednesdays either side of the Strasbourg game, Tuchel might be forgiven for rotating heavily on Saturday, although the last time he did that - ahead of the first leg of the Dortmund tie - Amiens held them to a 4-4 draw.

Returning stars?

Kylian Mbappé - scorer five goals in his last two games and now the league's top scorer with 18, one more than AS Monaco's Wissam Ben Yedder - may be rested, but Tuchel has hinted at the opportunity the Strasbourg match presents, with Di Maria and Thiago Silva working their way back after thigh and hamstring injuries respectively.

"We can prepare mentally," said the German tactician. "For Angel, I don't think the Dortmund game will be a problem and we can see if he plays in Strasbourg. For his part, Thiago keeps working in a super-professional manner and is doing everything to return as quickly as possible. If he's ready against Strasbourg he may be able to play against Dortmund."

Verratti and Meunier are suspended for the Dortmund clash so are likely to get 90 minutes under their belt in preparation for next Sunday's meeting with OGC Nice at the Parc des Princes. The match is likely to come too soon for Ander Herrera (thigh) and Colin Dagba (knee), but 17-year-old Tanguy Kouassi is in line for his fifth league start after drawing high praise from his coach.

'Can always count on him'

"For me, he can play both positions [midfield and defence]," Tuchel said. "He's very strong, has a great personality, is very reliable and does everything necessary to help. He always shows a lot of confidence and we can always count on him."

Strasbourg also have a respectable recent record against the champions. Thierry Laurey's men looked dangerous for large spells at the Parc des Princes in Round 5, with Neymar's injury-time overhead kick seeing the champions snatch all three points, and they held Paris to a 2-2 draw in the corresponding fixture last season.

Standing tall

Le Racing were beaten 3-0 by Montpellier Hérault SC last Saturday but had been undefeated in their four previous games heading into that match. The Coupe de la Ligue holders are secure in mid-table, 16 points clear of the automatic relegation places and half that distance behind the European chase above.

The league's most easterly club also have a clean bill of health, although Majeed Waris, recently recruited from Porto and owner of a goal and an assist in five career games against PSG, is pushing for his place having started the Montpellier game on the bench. A win, however unlikely, could lift Strasbourg into fifth depending on other results.

Probable teams

Strasbourg: Sels; Simakan, Koné, Mitrovic, Lala; Sissoko, Bellegarde, Liénard; Thomasson; Waris, Ajorque

PSG: Navas; Meunier, Kouassi, Diallo, Bernat; Di Maria, Paredes, Verratti, Sarabia; Mbappé, Cavani
