Lyon's formidable attacking trio of Memphis Depay, Tino Kadewere and Karl Toko Ekambi will hope they click into gear when the seven-time French champions play host to Strasbourg on Saturday (kick-off 6pm GMT).

The three had been involved in 30 of Lyon's 37 top-flight goals before Wednesday's trip to Dijon, but they all drew a blank leaving midfielder Lucas Paqueta to find the net and ensure OL remained in second place, two points behind leaders Lille and a point clear of Paris Saint-Germain.

"There were some good, things but when we lack determination going forward and we don't put our chances away…we could have scored before Lucas Paqueta's goal. We had too many situations in which our forwards weren't clear-headed or determined enough to make the game easier for us," said coach Rudi Garcia, whose team have won 13 and lost just one of their last 20 Ligue 1 Uber Eats games.

"We expect better from our attacking trio as a whole. Regarding the table, it was very important for us to win. There are a lot of games left and we play again on Saturday before the Coupe de France on Tuesday. We have to keep picking up points and be ready to string together wins."

Kadewere, who had scored nine times and provided three assists in his previous 16 league matches, added: "It was difficult. The most important thing was to win. We played together, we just weren't clinical. Matches like that happen. We need to keep working, and to stay focussed on the match against Strasbourg."

Garcia will have to decide whether Maxwel Cornet retains his place in the starting XI after the Lyon boss admitted he had substituted the Ivory Coast international at half-time of the midweek win due to his poor performance.

Lyon are unbeaten in their last five league games against Strasbourg, including a 3-2 win in Alsace earlier in the season in which Kadewere and Toko Ekambi, who scored twice, got the goals.

WATCH: Strasbourg are pegged back by Brest

Lyon led 3-0 in that game only for Strasbourg to push back hard and very nearly earn a point; the shoe was on the other foot on Wednesday when Thierry Laurey's men saw Brest score twice in the closing seven minutes to turn what looked like being a 2-0 home win into a morale-sapping 2-2 draw.

"We're disappointed, but it's a very good lesson for us. But for 15 seconds, we had three points. We weren't disciplined enough, it's a lapse in concentration," said Laurey, who switched to a back three with his side two goals up.

"We should have had the three points. It's not a question of system. You're in defence, you each need to pick up a red shirt, period. When you're leading 2-0, it seemed easier for us to go with three at the back. It's not a problem of the system, it's a problem of marking. When you lead 2-0, the match is usually won. We have to progress in that."
