Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang drew another blank as Olympique de Marseille were held to a goalless draw by LOSC on Saturday, but OM manager Rino Gattuso still has faith in his star striker.

Aubameyang joined Marseille from Chelsea this summer with a glittering playing CV which includes time at Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona and Arsenal, the latter as captain.

Previously the top scorer in Germany and England, Aubameyang has only scored once in ten Ligue 1 Uber Eats games for OM - although he does have three assists and four goals from five games in cup competitions - and certain sections of the support have been getting on his back.

"I have to defend all of my players, not just Aubameyang," the Italian 2006 FIFA World Cup winner said after a game in which his side failed to convert any of their eight shots. "I'll do everything to ensure Pierre reacts. He missed a few passes but I don't see a player in great difficulty.

'People expect a goal per game'

"We expect a little more because his name is Aubameyang. He makes mistakes like everyone else but he pays a little for his career and his name. People expect him to score a goal per game."

Gattuso's opposite number Paulo Fonseca dropped his star No.9 - last season's 24-goal top scorer Jonathan David. The Canadian only has two goals in 11 league appearances, and the Lille head coach has no regrets about his decision.

"We had a good match against Monaco [a 2-0 win last Sunday] and there was no need to change the team. Jonathan David remained on the bench almost until the end - it's a choice. I think [Yusuf] Yazici had a great match and that was already the case against Monaco."
