Group G leaders Paris Saint-Germain will be without injured superstar Lionel Messi and key midfielder Marco Verratti as they look to take a serious option on top spot in the group when they clash with RB Leipzig in Germany on Wednesday night.

UEFA Champions League Group A

Matchday 4

RB Arena, Leipzig

RB Leipzig - Paris Saint-Germain

- Kick-off at 21:00 CET (20:00 GMT)

Although Paris Saint-Germain managed to come from behind and beat Leipzig 3-2 at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 3, it will certainly be a tougher prospect in this return leg at RB Arena - especially without the man who could have had a hat-trick against the German side in Paris: Lionel Messi.

Switch it up

Subbed off with a muscular complaint at half-time in Paris Saint-Germain's 2-1 come-from-behind win over LOSC in Ligue 1 Uber Eats on Friday, the Argentine has been ruled out for Wednesday's match - to be replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum - along with Marco Verratti, still suffering from the hip injury that forced him off in the Classique and kept him out of the clash with Lille.

These key absences will force some changes in the middle of the park and coach Mauricio Pochettino is tipped to go with a 4-2-3-1 formation as a result, with two defensive midfielders - Danilo Pereira and Idrissa Gueye - and a three-man attacking midfield of Angel Di Maria, Wijnaldum and Neymar.

Wijnaldum: 'Get used to playing together'

"What is most important for me is to get to know my teammates better and better. They are new for me, and we are working hard in training and in the matches to find that link-up," said the Dutchman, for whom this starting spot could be a real watershed after a difficult time adjusting to his new gig.

"The style is different from the one I knew at Liverpool. There, we had played together for a long time whereas we rotate a lot here, and we play in lots of different positions in order to be effective in whatever situation. It’s a new team for lots of players, and we need to get used to playing together and to get to know each other better. It’s what we are doing as the matches go by."

Mbappé back to wreak havoc

Meanwhile, superstar forward Kylian Mbappé has recovered from an ear infection and will play the lone striker's role, looking to use his pace to get in behind Leipzig's three-man defence and add to their leaky tally of 11 goals conceded in three matches.

A win for Paris will see them go to ten points and, combined with a Manchester City win over Club Brugge, it would all but assure them of a place in the round of 16.
