Warren Zaïre Emery is set to become France's youngest post-war debutant with coach Didier Deschamps confirming the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder will step onto the pitch during his country's UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier with Gibraltar in Nice on Saturday (kick-off 8:45pm CET).

Aged just 17 years, eight months and 11 days on the day of the game, Zaïre-Emery, who joined PSG in 2014, will earn a place in French football history if - as expected - he features at Nice's Allianz Riviera. He could start the game, but Aston Villa's former Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara may well get the nod over the teenager, who has handled the media hype around him with ease.

"Warren is Warren, with his calmness. The media environment around him talks a lot about him. He was used to that with PSG. It gets a bit louder with Les Bleus. The important thing is that he remains as he is, that he's natural," said Deschamps, whose side are six points clear of the Netherlands at the top of Group B having won all six qualifying matches to date.

"He has the possibility to start. If he doesn't start, he will be an international [today]. I called him up, it wasn't just because it's cool."

Though Les Bleus have already secured their place in next summer's final tournament in Germany, they need a further two points from their remaining two qualifiers - they also play in Greece on Tuesday - to ensure they are one of the five top seeds in the group stage draw.

Deschamps acknowledged some players are playing more for places than points.

"They know that. They understand the competition for places. With the time that they have on the pitch, they'll need to perform as well as possible," explained the France coach. "There are always new objectives in a game, the one [today] and the one in Greece. To have answers, you can't put them on the bench."

After Eduardo Camavinga was ruled out of both games due to a knee injury suffered in a training ground collision with Ousmane Dembélé, Deschamps called up Nice's Khephren Thuram to replace the Real Madrid midfielder in his squad.

Probable France line-up: Maignan; Clauss, Upamecano, L. Hernandez, T. Hernandez; Griezmann, Zaïre-Emery (or Kamara), Rabiot; Coman, M. Thuram, Mbappé (c)
