Paris Saint-Germain defeated Toulouse FC 2-0 Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes to win the 2023 Trophée des Champions and secure the first trophy of the Luis Enrique era.

The Parisians opened the scoring less than five minutes into the match. Ousmane Dembélé connected with Kang-in Lee to give PSG the early lead in the contest. Despite conceding the first goal, Les Violets did their best to respond.

In the first half, Toulouse would make five total shots but they could not find the back of the net, and eventually, PSG made them pay. Kylian Mbappé doubled the lead on 44 minutes to give the capital club some breathing room before halftime.

Although scoring was absent in the second half, both teams had opportunities to secure a goal during the final 45 minutes. Toulouse, aiming to get back into the game, displayed aggression with 12 total shots, yet none led to a goal. In contrast, PSG managed only two shots but maintained their lead, ultimately securing their 12th Trophée des Champions.

The Parisians had a shortage of shots in the second half, but they showcased their latest addition, Lucas Beraldo. The Brazilian defender, who joined during this January transfer window, actively contributed by playing 19 minutes after coming in for Milan Škriniar.

Toulouse will look for a bounce-back win in the Coupe de France Round of 64. The reigning cup champions will travel to the Stade Municipal de Chambéry for a matchup against National 3 side Chambéry SF.

As for PSG, their Coupe de France entry sees them head to the Stade Pierre-Fabre to face US Revel, who currently competes in Régional 1, the sixth tier of the French football league system.
