Bordeaux 'keeper Benoît Costil was an understandably unhappy camper after Les Girondins' 44-year unbeaten record at home to OM was broken on Friday night, blaming himself for the result.

Almost every year since 1977, Marseille have travelled to Bordeaux looking to take three points back to the south coast when they leave, and for 44 years they have had to shrug their shoulders and say 'c'est la vie' after failing to get the better of their hosts.

Long-time hoodoo

A proud record for Les Girondins, but one that came to an end on Friday night as Turkey wide-man Cengiz Ünder made the most of a poor clearance from the Bordeaux No1 to score the only goal of the game.

"Marseille won because of me," admitted Les Girondins' glovesman. "I have to take on myself. I have to take responsibility for this result. I apologize to the team and the fans. My first idea was to get the ball up to the forwards, that was the option I had chosen from the start. But my choice wasn't the best and then it was a poor kick. I was wrong from beginning to end on this move."

Sampaoli: 'A real satisfaction'

Heartbreak for Bordeaux proved joy for Marseille, who leapt back into provisional second place, much to the delight of OM coach Jorge Sampaoli.

"We are very satisfied, this is a great win. Everywhere we have gone, people have told us that this is a classic match-up," said the Argentine, the first OM boss to clinch victory in Bordeaux since Ivan Markovic in the 1977-78 campaign. "I am happy for the club, the city and the president. It's a real satisfaction to take second place by ending this long winless stretch."
