Lyon assistant coach Claudio Caçapa spoke of his dismay at Lyon's performance in their 2-1 defeat at Brest on Wednesday evening - their ninth league defeat this season.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembélé equalised for Les Gones 18-minutes from time but they fell behind for a second time just two-minutes later and were unable to salvage anything from the game.

Caçapa, a six-time Ligue 1 Uber Eats winner as a player with Lyon was in charge of the side in the absence of coach Peter Bosz who was unwell and unable to make the trip north.

Difficult to accept

"The result is very hard to take, it hurts us a lot," said the 45-year-old Brazilian. "I'm disgusted. We wanted to kick on after the excellent victory against Bordeaux but unfortunately, we couldn't. We had many opportunities to win but we simply didn't do enough and paid the price for it. We should have scored more goals."

When asked if he had spoke to Bosz in the moments following the game Caçapa added: "I haven't called Peter yet. I think he is even more disgusted than all of us. We talked on the phone before the game, he thought we had a big chance to win the game."

Caçapa was left rueing the absence of Sunday's two-goal hero against Bordeaux, Karl Toko Ekambi who was ruled out of the trip to Brest through injury.

"Toko has been one of our best players this season. Clearly we missed him a lot, much like our other injured players, but we must not look for an excuse, we had to win this game and we didn't."

Lyon have endured a difficult season and after being dumped out of the Europa League by West Ham United last week, it is looking increasingly unlikely that eighth-placed OL will qualify for Europe at all next term.

Slipping away

"Europe is moving even further away. I don't even want to talk about European competitions as there are still matches to play and we will do our very best. But nine defeats is far too much for OL and the players are aware of this. They are also disgusted by this performance," added Caçapa.
