Monaco boss Adi Hütter heaped praise on Aleksandr Golovin after the Russian scored his fifth goal of the season in the Principality side's 2-0 win over Brest.

Denis Zakaria opened the scoring in the 16th-minute before Golovin produced another collectors item with a perfectly-placed finish from 15 yards.

The win kept Monaco hot on the heels of leaders OGC Nice and second-placed Paris Saint-Germain and Hütter singled out the attacking midfielder for another decisive display.

"It's his fifth goal this season and it came after some magnificent build up," said Hütter who watched his side claim a seventh league victory of the season. "Golo is exceptional. He can run for 90 minutes without stopping, he is really in great shape right now. We need him, he is a fantastic player and I hope he will continue to be decisive."

Despite Golovin's encouraging start to the season, Hütter believes the 27-year-old has plenty more to offer in front of goal. Although the Monaco boss insists his top scorer is among the best performers in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, he is not planning on setting any goal targets for the Russian.

"He has never scored more than eight goals?," he asked reporters. "I hope he will score more. He is a beautiful, creative player with a very good right foot. I think he can still do better, but I don't want to set him a goal. He is certainly one of the best players in the championship."

Hütter also had a few words of praise for midfielder Zakaria who rose highest to head Monaco in front at the Stade Louis II.

The Austrian said: "Despite his size, it's not one of his best qualities to impose himself in the air and score with his head. But in this situation, he took advantage of a very good corner from Golo."

"He also did a very good job defensively with his teammates. We fought for this victory and this clean sheet, so the credit goes to the team.
